Q: How does a student participate in an after school program?
A: There is an enrollment procedure for the after school programs. Parents and students contact the provider at their school to get more information about how they can enroll.
Q: How much does it cost and what if we can't afford to pay?
A: Each provider may charge a small fee but every student has the opportunity to participate regardless of ability to pay. Each after school provider offers scholarships; you just ned to contact the provider at your school to get more information.
Q: What days and hours are the after school programs open?
A: The after school programs are open every regular school day from the time school releases until 6:00 p.m. They are not required to be open on holidays.
Q: Can my student just drop in occassionally?
A: The after school program is not a drop in program. Elementary students are encouraged to participate every week day and middle school students at least three days a week.
Q: How long does my student have to stay?
A: The intent of the funding is to encourage students to stay the entire time because the program is meant to help students be successful. Studies indicate that students who participate often and stay the entire time can increase their academic success in regular day school.
Q: What if a parent or guardian needs a student to come home early or the student has other obligations after school?
A: The students may leave early if they have other things to do; parents/guardians just need to sign out their student and let the provider know the reason for leaving early.
Q: What if my student participates in other after school activities, can they still join the after school program?
A: Definitely, the after school providers work with the schools and other programs to make sure students who already stay after school have the opportunity to participate in their after school program as well.
